We went to the cardiologist yesterday. Maisy got an x-ray. I wish I would have been a little bolder to get a picture of her in the mini hospital gown they put on. It was adorable. Maisy now weighs 9lbs. 4oz.
The doctor told us that she is looking good, but her weight gain is definitely slowing down. He suspects she might need surgery in the next 1-2 months.
I was a little disheartened when the doc took out his stethescope to listen to her heart. He pulled back and said, "That is one whopping murmur". .We are so grateful that Maisy has made it this long without surgery. She has more than doubled the age she was at when she was supposed to have surgery and she has gained a good 3 lbs. since that time as well. Hopefully she will hold out even longer.
Long story short, surgery may be on the horizon. Her heart is having to work just a little harder but she is doing really well and the doctor said she still looks great. Oh, and I got her to give me a belly laugh.

A trip to the store
The kids were just finishing lunch. I was just finishing pumping and Gunner had already had an early nap. We were trying to figure out what to do next.
Maggie: I know, let's run to the store
Gracie: (alarmed) NO MOM! Then we'll just run around and be naughty
I love how she acted like she would be forced to act that way. I'm happy to report that I went on to separate trips to stores that day with all 3 kids and it went really well. Maybe I do dare to leave the house after all (even with children who might run around and be naughty).

Just a hair...
..Over nine pounds (or is it hare- I tried to google it and couldn't find a reference for the actual saying). This little girl is just ounces away from doubling her birth weight. She gained 5 oz. this last week!
Last night I was going through some things in our office and found Gracie's baby book. She was 13 lbs. 7oz. at Maisy's age. Aren't oldest children so lucky? I kept such a good record of all of her milestones. Sorry, Gunner. Sorry, Maisy. :)
And I know she was smiling before, but boy is this girl smiling a lot now. How can you not pull out the camera 24-7 when they don't wipe these adorable grins off of their faces? These pictures are all from the last few days. Doesn't she look like a happy girl? She is. My absolute favorite has been the few times I've caught her smiling when nobody is within her view. It is like she's totally amused with herself and almost breaks into a little gurgling laugh. I wish I knew what was so funny.
We go to the cardiologist a week from today. She'll have a chest x-ray and I'm interested to see what they say. The home health nurse predicts that she won't need surgery until early summer. I'll let you know what they say next week.

Finally!!!!!
Seriously! Sunday was the first day in a long time that it felt nice and warm outside and this is one of the first things our kids did. I don't believe with keeping up with the Joneses but our backyard must seem pretty boring compared to theirs. They already had a swing-set and a trampoline but they pulled out all the stops and now they have chickens. How do we compete with that? Ha ha. Our neighbors are so nice. They gave our kids some Valentine's day candy through the fence.
V-day Cookies
V-day slime
We needed a little something to pass the time last Friday, so the kids and I made some pink slime for V-day. Actually, I think it would have been pink no matter what. I can't wait to see how our colors change when Gunner starts to assert more opinions. Who knows? Maybe he has grown quite fond of the color. He sure sees it enough around here.
Gunner was completely grossed out at first but then he got the hang of it. He loved it so much that he sneaked out of the tub to play with the slime in his birthday suit (not pictured).

Back At It
St. George Marathon 2005- The Little Buckaroo Running Club
I've picked up an old habit the last month. Yes, I'm running again. Yes, I'm training for the St. George Marathon. No, I'm not that fast yet. But... I am considering running a habit now because I have run every day (excluding Sundays and 2 other days I missed) for the last month. I'm really proud of myself because I was even less consistent in training for marathon #2. That means that the last time I was this consistent about my daily run was when I was first married and pregnant with Gracie.
I will be the first to admit that it is hard. I never really like running when I start out and don't usually enjoy it until after I've already gone a couple of miles. Sometimes I lack motivation, time or energy, but I'm really grateful I've made this a priority right now. I think it has really helped my patience levels to burn off some extra energy and it helps me not to feel to stir crazy being home all day long.
I'm the type of person who really needs a goal and a serious reason or I have a really hard time exercising. I hesitate to write this goal in case I don't reach it, but I also want to spread the word to help motivate myself and have more accountability. I decided that I don't want to run another marathon just to say, "I did it". I'm aiming for a sub 4hr time and hopefully faster (3hrs. 40 min) to be able to qualify for the Boston Marathon. Right now I'm just working on my endurance and mileage (2-4 miles a day) and I've been working on getting my old speed back before I get to ambitious about getting to my hopeful marathon speed. Hopefully it will continue to go well. I'd love to hear some good speed advice from those who know how to go faster (please Shauna- I know you've run a sub 4 marathon).

Will I weight for you?
Maisy's nurse came again today. She weighs 8lbs.11.5oz. I'll admit, it was a little disappointing to see her gain only 2.5 oz in an entire week. The nurse assured me, however, that she must have gained length this week and that she will probably put on more weight next week. No need to be worried about one poor weigh in. I was told Maisy couldn't look better if she tried. She is pretty cute.
Because Maisy turns 3 months tomorrow, I'll give a few more updates, event though I just updated a few days ago. Feel free to skip this. You may know more about our baby than you ever wanted to.
* Maisy is still wearing a lot of newborn clothes, but is also wearing a lot of 0-3 month clothes. To be honest, I'm a little sad that I won't be pulling out the bigger clothes right now, but I really don't think we are too far off. Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy that she is still little. I just have too many cute 3-6 month clothes that I look forward to putting her in.
*Because we don't really go anywhere I let Maisy wear pajamas a lot and often don't put anything in her hair (a real change from Gracie who always seemed to be dressed up because I took her to class with me so often).
* I gave Maisy her last bath in the bathroom sink the other day. She could still fit fine, but I want her to be able to splash and enjoy the bath more.
*We set up Maisy's crib in Gracie's room, although they are still not technically sharing a room. I hope to start the transition soon, especially with Maisy sleeping so well, but we're not quite ready.
* Maisy is generally a really good baby but we hardly ever let her fuss because we don't want her to waste the extra calories crying and getting worked up. It is interesting to think of everything in terms of saving calories- we bundle her up, make sure her bottles are perfectly warm, I try to limit the number of times I change and bathe her ,etc.
*She generally goes down at 8 or 9 p.m. and sleeps until 5 or 6 a.m.
*I'm still pumping for her. We'll see how long my milk lasts. (did you know that I pumped almost everything for the first 2 months with hand pumps? Now I'm using electric).
*Maisy is smiling a lot and I know she thinks I'm funny. She does somewhat of a cooing laugh but I have yet to hear a big laugh from her.
* Maisy can roll from stomach to back and does it almost every time we put her on her tummy.
* Maisy seems to have an internal clock and almost always starts to fuss right as I'm taking my first bite of dinner. :)
*She LOVES having her diaper changed and is all smiles whenever I lay her down to change her.
* We love this little baby and are happy she is part of our family.

Four Eyes
I finally ordered some new glasses. My old glasses, I got before my mission and Gracie broke them before we moved to Colorado. Anyway, it has been fun to have glasses that I can actually wear during the day. I've got a really heavy prescription too, so I am loving that the lenses are really thin and I don't look like I have coke-bottle glasses.

Daisy head Maisy
Maisy is loving looking around these days. She is having fun noticing everything around her and loves looking up at her cow on her little playmat/gym. She also likes looking at the bird on her bouncy seat. She is interacting more, which is fun too. Her hair is getting longer and although it looks darker against her head, looks really blond in the light. I've decided that Maisy looks a little more like a LeBaron than my other kiddos (especially in the top picture). This might sound weird, but I just love it how babies often smell like milk (just milk...not spit-up).She has been spitting up a little more but nowhere near as often as the other two did.
Living away is interesting because it is hard to give the whole picture of a baby's personality or their looks and mannerisms. I wish we could just all give you personal visits to love on this baby.

Our little cowboy
Gunner is such a fun and funny little boy. His hair looks a little more relaxed these days because I don't often put product on it when we are staying at home. His hair is still super curly though and looks especially curly right after his baths.
Gunner has many obsessions that center around a greater obsession- being a cowboy. He is totally obsessed with boots and needs to have them on all day. He even discovered that a bigger pair of boots somebody gave us fits on over his footie pajamas.
Another obsession is this little black hat he got for Christmas. He hardly ever loses track of it and wears it for a good portion of the day. We bought him a snow hat for Christmas but he won't wear it because it isn't "howboy".
Yesterday I put some khaki pants on Gunner and within ten minutes he took them off and declared that he wanted "howboy pants" (his jeans). I thought it was pretty funny.Gunner has decided that he doesn't like anything wet. He also knows how to take off his diaper. When he wets his diaper he just ditches it. It's kind of funny and sort of slick, except when he's poopy. YIKES!! We've been doing a little bit of potty training but I'm kind of letting him guide it because I found that Gracie was a lot easier to potty train once she really wanted it. We'll see. I'm open to suggestions and recommendations. (by the way. He is wearing a diaper in the carseat picture).
I've decided that the hardest thing about having 3 kids is getting things calm enough that Gunner will want to take a nap. His napping has become somewhat sporatic and he has quit napping on most days or occasionally crashes at about 4:30 or 5pm (the worst time ever for a little boy to take a nap). The other day he got quiet so I went to check on him. This is what I found. I guess he got tired while changing his pants.

Best Friends
Gracie is growing up
I just thought I'd do a quick update on Gracie. she is getting so big. Every day I have to do a double take because her hair is getting so long, she's getting bigger and taller and she talks like a teenager. Gracie is little miss independent and although it is sometimes a power struggle, I love that she can make her own sandwiches, get drinks for her and Gunner, pour milk on her cereal (if the gallon isn't totally full), and hold Maisy while I'm busy pumping or doing a little something.
Gracie is doing a great job learning to write letters and we've been practicing writing her name. She has also practiced writing names of cousins. Gracie has also started helping with more chores and likes to help fold laundry, clean the bathroom, empty the dishwasher, wash dishes, clean windows and vacuum the stairs. She is a regular Cinderella (Muahaha).
This little girl is purely social and can be talked into almost any activity as long as she has someone to do activity alongside her- cleaning her room, eating dinner, really anything. On the flip side- she hates to do things alone, which is hard sometimes, but I have a similar personality so I guess I can understand.
Gracie loves dressing up and always looks forward to dance parties. She is also interested in dancing but has me for a mother so she hasn't learned any really cool moves yet. I hope to enroll her in some kind of dance class this year.
Gracie loves to be in charge and I've caught her lately putting Gunner in time-out or telling him he's going to lose privileges. She also likes to tell me about what privileges I'm going to lose. How do they get so sassy?
Gracie is officially the most spiritual person in our family for the month of January. Justin and I have been sending Gracie to primary and keeping Gunner and Maisy at home. We usually switch off every Sunday with one of us going to RS/ EQ and then coming home and switching so the other can attend Sacrament Meeting. So that makes Gracie the best at attending her meetings. She is getting really good at singing all the primary songs and likes to sing to Gunner to help him fall asleep.
I am really proud of Gracie. She has done a great job the last little while and I know it has been a sacrifice for her to not play with friends or get out much. Love you Gracie Maree!

Worth the weight
Maisy got weighed today by the home health nurse. She is now...
8lbs 9oz.
FYI- they consider an ounce a day great weight gain for all babies. For heart babies they say half an ounce/day to be satisfactory. So, the fact that she has stayed pretty close to an ounce a day is fantastic and everyone is really excited about the weight gain.
I'll try to update some pictures and stories soon.
