Country Home

Justin and his dad found this cute house for us to rent when they came with the U-Haul. It's in the country on 5 acres. There are trees everywhere. Here is the front of the house. The grass is a little sparse.
Here is our back porch. We like to sit out here when it isn't too hot, and sometimes when it is too hot, we come out here to eat otter pops.
A side view of the backyard.
We moved in enough to be comfortable, but a lot of our things we just brought right back to the garage-- baby clothes, fancier serving dishes. Moving is so much work, and because our move will probably be short term (about a year) we didn't want to multiply our work.
This is my driveway. This picture is taken from the garage. Our personal driveway goes up to the mailbox. We also live in a cul-de-sac, so the kids have enjoyed riding bikes up the super long driveway with no mom warning them about cars or strangers:)
This is the view from my front porch. We have a circular driveway where we park in the trees.
This is another view of the backyard, but from the back porch.

My favorite thing about living here is how quiet it is (in a good way-- not a creepy way). I don't really feel the need to lock my car at night (don't know that I have yet). No solicitors... we are too out of the way. And... I've heard that Gracie's school bus picks them up at the top of our driveway. So far, we've found lizards (like Geckos), frogs, grasshoppers (which Gunner is getting really good at catching), a million kinds of spiders, scorpions, big juicy bugs that remind me of the Lion King when Timon and Pumba introduce Simba to eating bugs. We've also seen owls, deer, bunnies, squirrels (though not in abundance like in Fort Collins),  and beautiful birds like cardinals. We've seen turtle, armadillo, and skunk roadkill but haven't seen any of the real thing yet. :)

So, let us know when to pencil you in for a visit.

Justin, Texas

We drove a little ways to Justin, Texas the day before Justin started at the clinic. It was fun to drive around a town that said Justin's name on every sign. :) They have a lot of fun western outlet stores and I think we will be going back for back to school shopping.

Highlights of a new world

The kids loved stopping by the clinic to see the baby puppies. New life is always so exciting and babies are always so cute. We also love seeing all the foals (baby horses) walking next to their mamas.
Texas Longhorns just up the street from us.
We found our trampoline! It was waiting for us in Texas.
Maisy falling asleep in the afternoon because we had been staying up so late.
Finding ways to stay cool in the Texas heat. Ice cream party.
Popsicles galore. Gunner kept making me crazy the first week or two after we arrived. He kept wearing long pants and sweatshirts in the melting heat. Just looking at him made me so hot.

Moving to Texas

We loaded up the truck (again- we had to keep loading and unloading every trip North and South) and said our goodbyes. Gunner suggested that he could ride on top of our load, but we convinced him otherwise (I love my little ham though, and he had fun with this picture).

Right before we loaded everyone, Maisy climbed in the front seat, grabbed a booster, and made herself cozy with the ipad. Too bad she didn't get to stay there.
We stopped at a big bridge in Arizona... might have been marble canyon? Can't remember now,but it had  great view. We stopped night 1 in Albuquerque, NM. The next day we drove the rest of the way to Texas and got to our home in the early evening. The kids traveled well and overall, it was a good trip.

Anniversary Dining

The owners of the Brandin' Iron restaurant (Justin's brother, Jeff and his wife,Sara) contacted us to see if we were interested in a private dining experience for our anniversary. They even offered to watch our kids while we ate by ourselves in the steakhouse :) We jumped on that.
The food was fantastic- still dreaming a little of my awesome steak and the fried ice cream :) Jeff was our waiter, but other than that, we just listened to some soft country music, ate, and talked-- uninterupted. It was beautiful. Thanks, Jeff and Sara.

I love the decor in the restaurant-- can you spot MY cowboy in the picture? They have lots of pictures that Justin's dad has taken and it always make me smile.
Gracie and Gunner ended up going to play with other cousins while we ate, but Maisy was happily entertained and even got a mini cone at the ice cream shop to finish off the night !

Riding off into the sunset

We went back to St. George and rode Horses as many times as we could. We came back to Pine Valley to work calves. Gracie enjoyed getting some "lessons" from Justin in Horseback riding. They sure love horses and I feel so grateful that they have the opportunities to ride when they do.

Campfire

We had such a fun campfire. I wish we were in this setting more often. Few things are as thrilling to me as sitting around a campfire singing. We sang Princess Pat (which my kids have been requesting as a goodnight song ever since-- Maisy is getting pretty good at it), Joe led us in "Hi, my name is Joe" (which my kids were also singing for days), and we sang lots of other favorites. We all joined in the beaver song, and Johnny Verbeck. It was awesome and also sweet to sing primary songs together near the end.

That night, we had a toy scramble. We did this as kids at Snydermill.  We had a big box of toys (think dollar store or toys kids didn't want anymore.) and then we dumped the box and the kids scrambled for toys like they would  for treats when a pinata breaks. It was so fun. This was the end of our reunion. We packed up early the next morning and checked out. We had such a great time.

More reunion fun. Bowery.

We went down to the bowery (The covered pavilion) and did some crafts and played at the playground before lunch. We also had a picnic lunch down there.

Bob's girlfriend (now fiancee) flew in from Chicago to join us. The 6-7 year old girls were totally obsessed and followed her everywhere. It was hilarious, but also endearing to see how kind and patient Mary was with all of her new little friends. :)
Even Maisy found a friend, and we decided that these two mischief lovers might get into a lot of trouble if we let them spend too much time together.

Snydermill- Bingo

We came back to SLC for an epic reunion with my siblings and parents at the Snydermill Lodge in Park City. The lodge is owned by the Canyon Rim Stake-- where we grew up and we went there every year with our ward when we were little. Anyway, we had a great time playing BINGO. Nanny and Grandpa had all kinds of fun prizes and we all enjoyed watching the game. The adults played later that night. I laughed so hard I cried... and couldn't stop.

Riding for the Round-up

Justin left with his dad and cousins for a few days to round up cattle on the Arizona strip and bring them to Pine Valley. This is a yearly event, and we always love to be in Pine Valley and make a point to meet the cows as they come off of the truck!  I should have stolen a few pictures from Larry as well, because he always takes great pictures of them while they are driving cattle.

Memorial Weekend

Justin's whole family came for Memorial Day. It was so great to see them all and we were grateful for the effort that everyone made. I love the feeling of a complete family with nobody missing. The garden was planted, cousins played really well together, we ate dutch oven dinner, went to church, and visited and played games. And did I mention how nice it felt to be in Pine Valley? Mmmm- makes me homesick just to write about it.

* As a side note, none of these pictures were from my camera. Thanks to Kim for always sharing her own and Larry and Carol Ann's pictures with me. :)
